Violence Prevention Program
In April 2017, the Archdiocese of Chicago launched a violence prevention initiative to increase the capacity and reach of current programs that address the root causes of violence and to identify and actively seek collaboration with like-purposed organizations. The Archdiocese is seeking out and investing in new approaches and collaborations to break the cycles of family instability, despair, racism and poverty and create conditions for peace.
The Violence Prevention Program is led by Phil Andrew, Director of Violence Prevention Initiatives. Prior to joining the Archdiocese, Andrew served more than 20 years in several offices and capacities for the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
As part of these efforts, the Archdiocese has created a venture philanthropy fund called the Instruments of Peace Fund. Cardinal Blase J. Cupich provided $250,000 from his personal charitable-works account for this fund. The fund will be used to invest in new anti-violence approaches and expand promising programs.
